Are you interested in delving into community journalism? Would you like to see your media center fill the gap in local coverage left by the decline of traditional newspapers? Would you like to be a community journalist? Join us for a discussion about what it takes to get a community news show off the ground and sustain it week after week. Take a look at samples of what’s being done around the country. Bring your questions and your ideas!

Basic Audio Workshop

The best way to get great audio on your shows is use the right equipment in the most optimum way. This workshop will teach you what you need to find out before a shoot, what audio equipment you will need for different types of settings, and how to integrate smart pads and phones with traditional equipment.

Basic Lighting Workshop

This workshop takes you back to the basics and demonstrates how to set up a well-lit situation both inside and outside. The workshop covers 3-point lighting, use of a bounce light, thinking about the sun, and using backlighting to your advantage. Lighting equipment options are covered, including low-cost LED lighting, and how to assess the lighting situation when you do your pre-production planning.

LPFM Radio Meeting; Presentation on Non-commercial underwriting

The annual LPFM radio meeting will feature a presentation on the limits of non-commercial radio broadcast underwriting statements and the different regulations for streaming music. AGENDA: 1. Station Updates; 2. Presentation on radio underwriting; 3. Streaming music limitations; 4. Handling improper content on live meetings and programming; 5. Streaming stats - What programming does well? 6. demo of Podbean for podcasting.

Mark Treinen joined the Cap Times as the top editor in 2023 following a 30-year career in daily newspapers that included two years in eastern Pennsylvania, 25 years in central Wisconsin and over three years as the executive editor at the Green Bay Press-Gazette. He has overseen numerous national award-winning journalism projects and was a past president of the Wisconsin Associated Press Editors Association.

Advanced Audio: Capturing and Mixing Musical Performances

This session will discuss different techniques and equipment for capturing live musical performances.  Multi-track recording will be the focus.  Recording engineer Derek Schyvinck will walk through the mixing of a multi-track recording session.
