Mark Gonwa highlights the magic of Disney on TV and the joy of music on the radio

Mark Gonwa (left) and Tom Weber know that Walt Disney World is a magical place anytime but it is especially magical at Christmas. Watch their most recent episode of A Man A Mouse The Magic.

Mark Gonwa and Tom Weber LOVE all things Disney. They know so much about the animation legend and creator of Disneyland that they could produce a monthly TV show about it. Hey! And they do! It’s called A Man A Mouse The Magic and it’s produced at the Sun Prairie Media Center.  Gonwa and Weber share up-to-date information about visiting Walt Disney World, tell personal stories about their experiences, and occasionally have a guest on – like a college student who in the photo pass service at the park.  In our featured video, Tom shares what it’s like to visit Disney World at Christmas!  It’s a magical episode!

But Mark is best known in WCM circles as an award-winning radio producer. Mark producers not one but twelve regular weekly radio shows all of them about music except for one that’s about Walt Disney!  For example, Bluesology is an hour-long show that airs live at noon on Mondays.  It features the blues both by early artists and from today’s charts and Mark peppers it with biographical insights.  In one episode he talked about Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, two musicians who inspired the name of the band Pink Floyd.  Take Immediate Cover is another hour-long show that airs on Mondays at 4 pm.  Mark said, “I play songs that are frequently ‘covered’ by other artists and I have a theme each week.  In one episode I featured songs that people are more familiar with in their “covered” versions than the original. It was a fun topic to explore.”   Song Archaeology digs deep into finding commonalities between songs.  One episode featured songs that have a sequel.  In another Mark found songs that use the sound of a radio getting tuned in at the start.

Mark has been producing radio shows at the Sun Prairie Media Center since 2015.  The director of the center, Jeff Robbins says, “Mark Gonwa is undoubtedly one of the best assets of 103.5 The Sun Community Radio. His ability to continuously produce programs of such high quality and in such high quantity continues to amaze us even though he’s been doing it for over five years now.”

Like many PEG media centers, the Sun Prairie Media Center produces programs with a mix of professionals and amateur community producers.  According to Jeff, Sun Prairie Media Center has come to rely on Mark’s enthusiasm for media production. “We really appreciate Mark’s willingness to help us out with broadcast remote opportunities. Whether at a Farmers Market, the local senior center, or a community event, he is always extremely professional, enthusiastic, and a terrific ambassador for the radio station and the media center in general.”
